7 Five Years Ago...
“This happened about five years ago. I was coming back home from Turkey, where I’d been on holiday with some
friends. They had rented a bungalow in the mountains near Ankara. Anyway, we were on the plane, which had
just taken off. I was reading a book when the pilot announced that there was a problem with one of the engines.
Of course, everyone panicked when there was a loud bang from the right side of the plane. I could see a lot of
smoke coming from one of the engines. I felt pretty nervous, I can tell you, but I tried to concentrate on my book.
Fortunately, the plane carried on flying normally, and we returned to the airport. Ten minutes later, we landed
without any problems. We had to wait for about an hour, and then we got back on the plane. Actually, it was a
different plane, and I was pretty relieved that it was.”
