The Wind Rises was nominated for
an Academy Award (Oscar) for Best
Animated Film in 2014.
Studio Ghibli, founded in 1985, is Japan’s
most famous animation studio. Its
philosophy is to tell stories that
celebrate life, nature, and
human emotion.
The film’s title comes from the
French poet Paul Valéry, whose
words suggest that even when
life is uncertain, we must keep
moving forward.

Director Hayao Miyazaki created this film
after working on animation for over
30 years. He said it was a story about
“how beautiful dreams can lift the
human spirit.”
