        ORIGAMI

        The Art of Paper Folding

Origami is the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. The word ‘origami’ comes from two Japanese words: ‘ori’ meaning ‘to fold’ and
‘kami’ meaning ‘paper’. This art began in Japan hundreds of years ago and was first used in ceremonies and celebrations. At that time,
only special handmade paper was used, and origami was seen as a symbol of respect and creativity.
Today, origami has become a popular hobby around the world. People of all ages enjoy making animals, flowers, and many other
shapes using only a square piece of paper. It doesn’t require glue or scissors—just patience and focus! Origami helps improve
hand–eye coordination, creativity, and concentration. Some people also find it relaxing and a great way to reduce stress. From
classrooms to art studios, origami continues to inspire people to create beauty from something as simple as a sheet of paper. Do you
want to try it? Follow the steps and make your own bookmark!

          • First, take a square piece of paper.
          • Fold it in half diagonally to make a triangle.
          • Turn it so the long side is at the bottom.
          • Fold the top corners down to meet at the bottom point.
          • Unfold them and fold only the top layer up, then tuck
the corners inside to make a pocket.
          • Decorate it with eyes, shapes, or stickers—now you have
            a colourful origami bookmark!
