Brain Trick: Your Eyes Can Fool You!
Your Eyes Can Fool You!
We usually trust what we see, but our eyes and brains do not always work together
perfectly. Sometimes our perception can be fooled in surprising ways. What seems obvious
at first may turn out to be quite different from reality. Take a closer look at the picture
below and see what your eyes tell you.
Look at the picture. Which square is darker: A or B?

They are the same.
Surprise!
The Secret Behind the Trick
Actually, Square A and Square B are exactly the same colour! Because Square A appears to be in the shadow, your brain assumes it
must be lighter than it really is. As a result, the two squares look different even though they are the same colour. This effect is called
the ‘Checker Shadow Illusion’, first described by Edward H. Adelson. Our brains don’t simply see colours; they interpret them based
on light, shadows, and surrounding patterns.
Test your eyes!
Try covering the surrounding squares with a piece of paper and focus only on squares A and B. You will notice that they are actually
the same colour.
