80. (I) Dîvânu Lugâti’t-Türk is the oldest known dictionary
of the Turkish language, written by Kâşgarlı Mahmud
between 1072 and 1074. (II) The manuscript is
written on delicate paper made from silk and other
natural fibres. (III) The only known manuscript of it
was discovered by Ali Emiri, an Ottoman scholar, in
1910. (IV) Recognising its significance, he carefully
copied and preserved it. (V) Thanks to his efforts, this
invaluable work was brought to light and has since been
studied by scholars around the world.
