Danger

Pete Charlton was an underwater photographer. One day he came face to face with a great white shark. He was
snorkelling alone near some islands in the east of the Pacific Ocean. He was coming up from a dive when he saw the
shark about six metres away. Suddenly it turned and came towards him through the water like a rocket. He just had
time to put his hand up in front of his face. Then, the shark hit him with all his force and bit his hand. He didn’t feel
the bite. His face mask fell off, so he couldn’t see anything. He swam to the surface and looked for the boat. It was
only fifty metres away, but it looked like a kilometre.
He swam on his back towards the boat with his bad arm above the water. He was sure that the shark was somewhere

near him, but he didn’t know where. He screamed “Shark!” again and again. He said, “My life rolled like a film in front
of my eyes.”
His arm was bleeding, and he left a cloud of blood behind him. Then, he saw the black triangle of a fin on the surface
of the water. The shark was following him. He knew it was going to bite him again. The shark came from behind and
bit his right shoulder. He was swimming and screaming. Finally, he saw someone in a dinghy. He was rowing towards
him from the boat. Just in time, he pulled himself over the side of the dinghy, and he was safe.
