Culture Corner
Read some etiquette surprises from two different countries below. Then search the Net to find another interesting
etiquette rule from a different country and share it with your classmates.
Being late is not taken kindly in almost every culture around the world. But
the situation in Canada is shocking. Showing up early or on time in Canada
is considered bad. Yes, you’ve heard right! Still, don’t overdo it. Because
being late for more than 15 minutes is also considered rude.
It’s sometimes impossible not to be shocked by other countries’ rules of
manners. For example, chewing gum is not acceptable in Singapore. It’s
not only a bad manner but also against the law. Since 1992, the country has
banned chewing gum to keep the streets clean.
