This activity enables students to practise how to apologize in different situations. It also encourages them to improve their listening,
speaking and reading skills.

Materials and Preparation

Copy and cut out the photocopiable material on pages 217-218.

Procedure

1 Divide the class into two teams, A and B.
2 Cut up the situation cards and apology cards and shuffle them face down on the table.
3 Ask each student of both teams to come and pick up a card.
4 Remind the students that team A players are going to pick up situation cards and team B players are going to pick up
apology cards.
5 When the player from team A picks up a situation card, e.g., “You didn’t hear someone”, the players of team B must
find the matching apology card in five minutes and say “Pardon?”
6 Each team gets 5 points for each correct match. The team with the highest score wins the game.
