EARLY SETTLEMENTS IN ANATOLIA
Anatolia has been home to a lot of different civilisations, from classical cities along its coasts to sites that date from the very
beginning of human history. You will find some important information about some of them below.
Göbeklitepe is an ancient site in Şanlıurfa. The most
important feature of Göbeklitepe is the T-shaped stelae
in a circular plan. Ancient people surrounded them with
stone walls, and they carved various human and animal
figures along with abstract symbols.
The ancient city of Ephesus is perhaps one of the most
important ancient cities in Türkiye, and it is located in
Selçuk, İzmir. One of the cultural and scientific centres
of its period, the city has always attracted attention with
its unique structures. In addition to the Library of Celsus,
there are ancient roads, a theatre, hillside houses, and
many other archaeological findings in Ephesus.

The ancient city of Myra dates back to the 5 century
BC, and it is in Demre, Antalya. It used to be the most
important trade and port city of its period. Also, it used
to be the centre of sea transportation. Being home
to the rock tombs of the Lycian civilisation, an ancient
theatre, and the Church of Saint Nicholas, Myra was very
important in every period from the Lycian civilisation to
the Roman and Byzantine civilisation.
