This activity aims at improving listening and speaking skills by talking about cities. This activity also develops thinking
critically and revising the background knowledge of the learners about the world-famous landmarks and monuments.
They ask for and give more detailed information about the places in the photos. This activity also encourages competition
and collaboration in groups.

Materials and Preparation

Copy the photocopiable material on page 141 for the number of the pairs in the class.

Procedure

1 Have the Ss work in pairs. Give a copy to each pair.
2 Give the Ss a few minutes to name the places in the photos. Have them talk about the photos and note down the
name of the countries, cities and the landmarks or monuments in the photos.
3 Elicit the answers and make sure they name the photos correctly.
4 Then have each pair to choose a photo and search for the answers of possible questions that their classmates may
ask. Give them 10 minutes to find some special information to tell more about the photo they have chosen.
5 Encourage the pairs to ask questions to get some specific info about the places in photos. Here are some sample
questions and they may vary according to the photos.
• Where is it located?
• Who built it?
• When/ Why was it built?
• Is it a natural or a historical landmark?
• Why is it so precious?
• Does it serve as a hotel or a restaurant?
• Does it have a museum inside?
