10 Where Have You Been?
This activity aims to encourage students to ask for and give more information about places and improve their listening,
speaking and writing skills.
Materials and Preparation
Divide the students into pairs. Give one student the picture on page 139.
Procedure
1 Students will play in pairs.
2 One student will ask questions about a specific place on the picture. The other student will answer the questions by
using the picture.
E.g.
• Have you ever been to…?
• Which city is it located?
• What do you know about…?
• When is the best time to visit…?
• Is it an ancient city?
• What are the natural beauties of…?
• Which activities can I do there?
3 Students will ask clarifying questions and write down the answers they hear.
4 Afterwards the students will take turns.
5 The student who answers more questions properly wins.
11 Catch Me if You Can!
This activity aims at improving listening and speaking skills by talking about cities .This activity also develops thinking
critically and revising the background knowledge of the learners about ten famous cities around the world. It motivates
students to compete and collaborate in groups.
Materials and Preparation
Make a copy of the page on 140 for each group.
Procedure
1 Divide the class in groups of four or five.
2 Give the students10 minutes to read the captions and guess the city that they are written for.
3 Group members talk among themselves, and then they agree on the correct answer.
4 Then have them write the names of the countries.
5 When the time is over check the answers together. The group with most correct answers on the page is the winner.
