The Ancient City of Troy
Troy is one of the most famous ancient cities in the world. It is in northwestern
Anatolia, Türkiye, and it has a 4,000-year history. Troy is located in an
unusual geography where Anatolia, the Aegean, and the Balkans meet. As
a coastal city, it had a strategic location because it was on the sea trade
route from the Aegean Sea to the Black Sea. The earliest settlement in Troy
was in the early Bronze Age. Later, different civilisations inhabited the city.
The Byzantines ruled Troy between the 12 and 13 centuries.
