THOSE WERE THE DAYS
I’m a middle-aged man now. I have an ordinary life in an apartment building. There are 34 apartments in
this building, but unfortunately I know very few of my neighbors. I feel lucky when we greet each other in the
mornings or evenings. Whenever I sit in front of my window and watch the crowded streets, tall buildings
and noisy cars moving around, I remember my childhood. It was the happiest time of my entire life. We used
to live in a green neighborhood with beautiful houses with big gardens. (1) ____. All the children used to
play in the street until late hours. Comparing the past with today, I can’t believe how safe our street was. We
used to buy ice cream or different colored candies from the street sellers. (2) ____ because we didn’t use
to go to restaurants or order food. Our moms used to cook delicious homemade food, and it was a great
pleasure to go to our friends’ houses for meals. Walking to school with our friends was another joy for us.

miss those lovely days.
