IN APRIL, IN ADANA!
When the fascinating scent of orange flowers arrives in the city of Adana
in April, it’s time for The Orange Blossom Carnival. The carnival was
first held in 2012, and since then I’ve tried my best to participate in this
spectacular event. The carnival is celebrated to welcome the arrival of
spring and have fun, so it attracts tens of thousands of people every
year. Not only the people of Adana, but also thousands of visitors from
different cities around Turkey flock to the city. Therefore, the hotels are
usually fully booked in advance, and the airline companies provide additional flights during this time of
year. The events start after the opening ceremony in Atatürk Park, which used to be an orange garden a
few decades ago. You can see the happy people taking photos, watching the parades of the participants
in orange outfits, colorful hats, crowns and flowers. The carnival is also an amazing opportunity for
artists, dancers, schools, clubs and associations to show their creativity and imagination. Of course,
this joyful parade isn’t the only activity during the carnival. Hundreds of events and dozens of activities
take place until the last day. Huge crowds gather in the streets to witness the dance performances,
street entertainments, concerts, sports events and open-air parties. After watching or joining these
entertaining events and activities, people rush to the restaurants to enjoy various traditional dishes of
Adana. This memorable journey ends up with happy faces and suitcases filled with handmade souvenirs
and different food carried from Adana.
