There is a rapid change in information and communication technologies and social media is the key
development of this change. It is a well-known fact that social media have lots of effects on our lives.
However, the question is this Are these effects positive or negative? There are both positive and negative
effects of social media on people’s lives. First of all, it is easier to make friends within a short time via social
media. It is possible to make lots of friends around the world through social media platforms. Although it
is true that they may not be your real friends, you may not go out with them or go to the movies together.
You can definitely share lots of things, at least, in the digital world. Secondly, social media help with
faster communication. People’s awareness has increased about what is happening around the world. For
example, a person posts about Amazon Rainforest fire in Australia and people living in Turkey learn about
it. It is amazing. However, there are also negative effects of social media. Social media can be more
addictive than any other addictive
substances. It can be so attractive
for many people that they want to
check it all the time without even
thinking about it. Depression and
anxiety can be regarded as other
negative effects. Spending too
much time on social media could
affect your mood negatively. In
conclusion, everything is in our
hands. We should benefit from
the social media and get rid of
their negative effects.
