African termites are social insects that live in a
colony with many different types of termites doing
different jobs. (II) They make their nest out of clay
that has been moistened with their saliva. (III) In
moist tropical ecosystems, ants may outnumber
the combined biomass of wild birds and mammals.
African termite colonies are made up of four
different species. Workers produce food and
maintain the nest; soldiers defend the nest; the
queen produces all of the eggs, and a king mates
with the queen.
