2.2 ONLINE ACTIVITIES
Beyond Virtual Reality Glasses
Virtual reality (VR) technology is designed to alter the nature of online activities by creating more immersive and
interactive experiences. It provides a realistic environment where people can interact with each other or visit
somewhere else in a simulated display. By doing so, it can help to reduce the costs associated with physical
events and save time. With this technology, you can have the chance to look round museums, art galleries,
and historical sites no matter where you are. The Louvre Museum in Paris, for instance, allows visitors to
undertake virtual tours of its collections and exhibitions without rope barriers and glass walls. The experience
brings a variety of features, such as the ability to view some famous works of art in high resolution and learn
about the context of each piece. The Mona Lisa, which is apparently the most precious item in the Louvre,
has been exhibited online through an eight-minute VR tour since 2020. The tour begins in the museum, face
to face with the portrait, and then it gradually takes you back in time to the original setting where you can see
the real woman Da Vinci painted. The experience also gives detailed information about the techniques and the
enhancement process of the painting. Eventually, this way of seeing the Mona Lisa will soon turn out to be the
best way to observe all the details invisible to the naked eye behind the bulletproof glass in the museum.
