                  8. Helen thinks Tom’s shapeshifting into a pair of sunglasses is not a good idea.

          2. Listen to the dialog again and decide who might have said these statements, Helen or Tom.
              1. I wish I didn’t have a lifelong misery because I can’t go back and change it.
              2. I wish my tongue were the muse of my voice.
              3. I wish I could decline people from the bottom of my heart.
              4. I wish I could explore new places easily.

          3. Read the dialog and fill in the blanks with the given sentences.

              a. have you ever thought of being someone else
              b. could you imagine yourself being born old
              c. how excellently I would play this instrument

Grandpa: You’re playing the guitar extremely well,
son. I hope I’ll watch your performance on the stage
              one day.
Dan: Oh, come on, pa. You’re overestimating me. I’m
only an intermediate player, but sometimes I
imagine myself on the stage and dream,
              (1) ____ if I were Eric Clapton. I could play it both fast
and slow splendidly as he does in his performances.
Grandpa: Yes, son, you’re right. Sometimes, we all
imagine ourselves as someone else because we
want to experience their knowledge in life.
              Dan: Really? So, (2) ____?
Grandpa: Sure! If I had a chance, I would be Benjamin Button and live the life of him.
Dan: Benjamin Button? Who is that guy?
Grandpa: Benjamin Button is the character in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s remarkable short story, The
Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It tells the story of a man who is born, not as a baby, but as an old man.
He proceeds his 80 years of life growing younger day by day, and finally dying as a baby. I think it would be
a good idea to live the worst part of life in the beginning and the best part in the end. So,
              (3) ____, and growing younger as time goes by, son?
Dan: Oh! I didn’t expect such a tough question, pa. Yep, it would be very interesting, I suppose.

          4. Read the dialog again and answer the questions.
              1. Could you imagine yourself as Benjamin Button? Why/Why not?
                  _________________________________________________________

              2. How would you feel if you were him?
 8. Search for some futuristic-looking designs and write about the ones you wish you had giving your reasons. _________________________________________________________

          5. Think about an imaginary character you would like to be and prepare a similar dialog. Then, act
                 it out in class.

                                                                                                       57
